What is Capital Hydrotherapy?

Capital Hydrotherapy specialises in hydrotherapy, aquatic physiotherapy, Hydrolates (Pilates in the water), Deep Water Running and rehabilitation. Capital Hydrotherapy is a water based exercise program, designed by Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists to specifically suit an individual’s needs. It has a particular focus on rehabilitation (and pre-habilitation, prevention of injuries) and has proven to be very beneficial for:

  • Post-operative conditions – shoulder/knee surgery, hip/knee replacements, back surgery.
  • Acute pain – wry neck, lumbar back injury, ankle sprains, shoulder strains.
  • Heart Conditioning.
  • Chronic pain – osteoarthritis, lumbar disc bulge, fibromyalgia.
  • Overweight.
  • Systemic viral conditions - glandular fever, chronic fatigue.

The warmth of the Hydrotherapy pools (32-33 degrees) and the hydrostatic pressure can reduce swelling, improve blood circulation, reduce muscle spasm, tight fascia & connective tissue, decrease pain and induce muscle relaxation.  The supportive properties of the water can assist with stability, mobility, proprioception and balance. The resistance of the warm water, increased if needed with the use of specific aides such as hand gloves, paddles, floats & dumbells, can improve strength-endurance and cardiovascular fitness.

Land based home programs are also available (swiss balls, thera bands, pilates foam rolls and pilates strengthening programs).

Entitled Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) clients may be referred for clinically necessary Exercise Physiology treatment by their General Practitioner on a valid D904 referral form.

Water

The regenerating and therapeutic qualities of water have been well researched. In Australia, more and more people are now realising the benefits of Hydrotherapy.

Warm Water
provides the perfect medium to ease away aches and pains due to stiff joints and sore muscles.

The buoyancy of the water eliminates the effects of gravity, enabling a much greater variety of exercises and movements which may not be possible on land.
The addition of floats and paddles can increase the resistance of the exercises, enabling the progression of the exercise programme.

Why choose Capital Hydrotherapy?

Each pool has variable depth, stepped entries, non-slip tiles, safety ledges and hand rails, which makes Capital Hydrotherapy an excellent and safe facility for group Hydrotherapy sessions (and one-on-one sessions available upon request).

The computerised and fully-automated water treatment and filtration systems exceed Health Department requirements and utilise the latest technology to provide clear, clean and warm water.

Majority of the hydrotherapy classes have exclusive usage of the entire facilities, providing clients with privacy both in the water and in the individual change cubicles.

Sound therapy is used for the sessions, to create a calming environment, and connect the body and mind. "Hydrolates", is also structured into the sessions; which is Pilates in the water (focusing on alignment, breathing, and activating your "power house" or core stability),

Capital Hydrotherapy has 3-month insurance packages for group hydrotherapy with initial and final assessments and reports.  One on one treatment is also available upon request.
